Getting the best rate when you travel
- Pay in the local currency. When a card terminal or ATM abroad offers to charge you in ringgit, choose the local currency instead. The “convert to MYR” option (dynamic currency conversion) usually adds 3–7%.
- Compare money changers by the total you receive, not the headline rate: some add commission or a minimum fee.
- Use a multi-currency card or travel card for everyday spending, and carry some cash for places that are cash-only.
- Book flights in one currency. When comparing fares, look at the checkout total in the same currency, including card fees. See why flight prices differ between sites.

Rates refresh once a day from the provider and are cached on our server. The time of the latest update is shown under the result.
Why is my bank’s rate different?
This converter shows mid-market reference rates. Banks, card issuers and money changers add a margin or fees, so the rate you are offered will be a little lower.
